ADHD
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) affects attention regulation, impulse control, activity level, and executive functioning. It can begin in childhood and continue into adulthood, with day-to-day effects that vary widely from person to person.
Common signs and experiences
Common concerns include losing track of tasks, difficulty organizing time or belongings, restlessness, interrupting, acting before considering consequences, and inconsistent follow-through. Adults may notice chronic lateness, unfinished projects, or feeling overwhelmed by routine demands.
How evaluation works
A careful evaluation looks at symptoms across settings and over time. Clinicians may review developmental, medical, school, work, sleep, and mental health history and may gather input from people who know the individual well. Anxiety, depression, trauma, sleep problems, and learning differences can produce similar difficulties and should be considered.
Treatment and support
Support may include skills-based therapy, practical coaching, changes to routines or environments, and medication when appropriate. Treatment is individualized and monitored so benefits, side effects, and changing needs can be addressed.
